HUDSON, Ind. (21Alive)—- “Keep Calm and Chive On.”
One of the founders of the popular website TheCHIVE.com doesn’t forget about his roots here in Northeast Indiana when it comes to giving back. Fort Wayne native John Resig, president of Resignation Media, traveled back to the area to give a $5000 donation to the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department Saturday.
The station has been at risk of shutting down due to financial troubles in the city, and is in a budgeting shortfall of tens of thousands of dollars.
Firefighters there make about 200 calls a year from their station that has a leaking roof, drafty windows and old air tank vests.
The generous donation all started with the department’s Rescue Lieutenant, Justin Pence, sending an email to the Chive Charities explaining the town’s situation; that’s when Resig stepped in to help.
“I’m not biased to my hometown, but when I found out that I received a letter from the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department I knew that I was going to be able to partial to that letter,” says Resig.
“This [donation] is kind of like our new beginning,” says Pence. “We can actually start doing the things that need to get done to our station, get it started and carry it on. [We can] make it last even longer than it already has.”
Since “The Chive” website was founded eight years ago, the founders and the website viewers, the “Chivers,” have donated over $10 million charitable dollars to those in need.
Resig plans on getting his 30 million “Chivers” involved in donating to the department, as he will launch a flash campaign Wednesday.
