‘Gunga Galunga’: Bill Murray Is Launching An Irreverent Golf Clothing Line

Bill Murray has been an icon in the world of golf since his turn as bumbling greenskeeper Carl Spackler in the movie “Caddyshack” more than 25 years ago.

It’s a good bet that at least half the guys in a given golf foursome can recite from memory many of Murray’s most famous Caddyshack lines, whether it’s about gophers, a Cinderella story outta nowhere, hybrid grasses, or the Dalai Lama himself. Murray has remained an ambassador for the sport over the years, hamming it up at pro-am tournaments, launching a Caddyshack-themed restaurant at the World Golf Hall of Fame in Florida, and hosting an annual charity golf event with his five brothers every year.

The actor, who was a caddie as a youth, is now launching a lifestyle and apparel brand called the William Murray Golf line. Not surprisingly, it’s being billed as a break away from traditional golf apparel companies with its unique look and irreverent style. Just don’t expect any Elmer Fudd-style hats or ghillie suits.

“The styles won’t be as extreme as some of the things you’ve seen Bill wear,” said John Resig, who helped found the clothing line. “I want you to be able to recognize a William Murray shirt from 50 yards away as opposed to a Loudmouth, which you’d see coming from 100 yards.”
